Ewan Malcolm, Director
Ewan set up the Scottish Mediation Network office in September 2002 and was appointed as its first Director.
Ewan was in private practice as a lawyer for nearly two decades and started his mediation training in 1995. He is trained as a commercial, a family and a community mediator. In his own time, he freelances as a mediator in high value family and commercial disputes. He is Director of Training for CALM, the association of Family Law Mediators accredited by the Law Society of Scotland.
Ewan also volunteers with both the Edinburgh Sheriff Court and the Edinburgh Community Mediation Services, where he is nearing completing of the SVQ Level IV qualification in mediation. Ewan has presented training across the UK and is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development.
Toni Freitas, Mediation Awareness and Events Development Officer
Toni has worked at Scottish Mediation Network since November 2003. She has a Masters in Writing and English and her previous experience includes: Director of a writing programme for underprivileged young people in Oakland, California; teaching at universities and secondary schools in the San Francisco area; and event planning.
Toni is formerly of Vancouver, Washington USA and is happy to say that Scotland is now her permanent home. Beyond her fulltime work with SMN, she designs jewellery and is working on her first novel.
Carol Hope, Mediation in Education Development Officer
Carol previously worked with Family Mediation Lothian, and was the Director since 1997. At FM Lothian, she helped develop a number of mediation initiatives involving: stepfamilies, grandparents, and young people. Carol has worked at SMN since January 2006.
Trained as an Additional Support Needs mediator, Carol also works with the Disability Conciliation Service. Carol has worked with both primary and secondary schools and trains young people to become peer mediators.
David Adam, Administrator
David has worked as the Administrator for SMN since June 2006 and is an honours graduate from Lancaster University with a BSc in Physics and Cosmology. Previously he has worked for Scottish Widows and Scottish Equitable.
Before that time, he worked for the SCVO in Dundee as the Administrator for their jointly run Progress 2 Work and Link-up programmes, helping those with alcohol and or drug related barriers and issues into finding employment and training. He has a keen interest in outdoor sports, especially rock climbing and mountain biking.
