Why Mediation?

Mediation is about finding a solution that satisfies everyone. It is a practical process that encourages disputing parties together to resolve their differences with the assistance of a trained mediator who acts impartially.  Mediation is voluntary and aims to offer people the opportunity to be fully heard, to hear each other’s perspectives and to decide how to resolve their dispute themselves.

Mediators avoid taking sides, making judgments or giving guidance. Mediation is, therefore, different from processes like advocacy, counselling, arbitration, and advice giving. The mediator is responsible for developing effective communication and building consensus between the parties.

Mediation is a flexible process which can take place face-to-face or by a series of private meetings.  These meetings are all completely confidential and cannot be used later in Court. At the end of the process the parties very often agree on a way ahead for the future.
