SUMMARY:Free Practice Standards Online Update - Members Only
DESCRIPTION:A short presentation followed by a Q&A. The presentation will be led by Heather Zajac our new Project Officer Training and Practice. \nFrom the 1st April 2021 all mediators\, when renewing practitioner status\, will be required to provide information that they have met the new revised standards. \nThe changes are to maintain and improve standards with an approach that encourages reflection on mediation practice at an appropriate level\, balancing the skills of mediators and the protection of clients. \nThe previous practice standards for mediators were put in place in 2010. To ensure that our standards still continue to be at an appropriate level\, Scottish Mediation undertook a review following a year long consultation\, resulting in these changes. \nTo see the table for comparisons to the old and new standards\, please click HERE. We hope you can join us and look forward to updating you on the changes. \nTuesday 2nd Feb 2021 OR Tuesday 2nd March\, 10.30am -11.30am. Link to be sent out nearer the time. \nPlease note this event is for members only. The event will take place online (Zoom) \nTo book this event please click HERE

SUMMARY:Learning by Doing: The First UK Mediation Clinic Conference Hosted by University of Strathclyde Mediation Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Though still rare the UK\, mediation clinics hold the promise of combining academic learning and practical action for the community. Strathclyde Mediation Clinic started with a single case in 2011\, and now provides small claims mediation in nearly half of Scotland’s courts. This online conference\, hosted by University of Strathclyde\, will be the first to bring together all those with an interest in the clinical education of mediators. \nThe day includes input from clinic founders\, practitioners\, students\, courts and researchers. We hear from the former convener of the Scottish Parliament’s Justice Committee Margaret Mitchell MSP on what impressed her about the Mediation Clinic’s work in the justice system. And we conclude with a keynote from an American mediation pioneer and founder of an early clinic\, Professor Carrie Menkel-Meadow. \nTopics include starting a mediation clinic\, working with the courts\, mediating remotely\, learning from research and the legacy of Covid. There will also be opportunities for networking and discussion. \nMore information on the conference and programme can be found here. \nTicket Information: \nNon-students £45 and should be purchased via the University of Strathclyde Online Shop \nStudents Free of charge (but MUST register to attend) HERE
