DESCRIPTION:Strathclyde Housing Mediation Project invite you to observe a “Mock Housing Mediation Session” on Wednesday 16 June at 11.00am – 12noon. \nThis event is free but registration via Eventbrite is required. A link will be emailed to participants who register nearer the time of the event. \nMediation makes particular sense for housing matters. SUMMARY:Learning by Doing: The First UK Mediation Clinic Conference Hosted by University of Strathclyde Mediation Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Though still rare the UK\, mediation clinics hold the promise of combining academic learning and practical action for the community. Strathclyde Mediation Clinic started with a single case in 2011\, and now provides small claims mediation in nearly half of Scotland’s courts. This online conference\, hosted by University of Strathclyde\, will be the first to bring together all those with an interest in the clinical education of mediators. \nThe day includes input from clinic founders\, practitioners\, students\, courts and researchers. We hear from the former convener of the Scottish Parliament’s Justice Committee Margaret Mitchell MSP on what impressed her about the Mediation Clinic’s work in the justice system. And we conclude with a keynote from an American mediation pioneer and founder of an early clinic\, Professor Carrie Menkel-Meadow. \nTopics include starting a mediation clinic\, working with the courts\, mediating remotely\, learning from research and the legacy of Covid.
