SUMMARY:Mediate 2025 - Circles of Connection (Scottish Mediation Annual Conference)
DESCRIPTION:This year’s conference takes places on Wednesday 3rd December at the Greyfriars Charteris Centre in Edinburgh. \nOur theme is Circles of Connection\, and we’ll be looking at how mediation connects to different areas of work and ways of working. \nOur keynote speakers are Suzanne Zeedyk\, Manira Ahmed and Dr Samantha Hardy. We’ll have a range of plenary sessions and workshops and critically an opportunity to connect with others interested in mediation. \nKEYNOTE SPEAKERS: \nSuzanne Zeedyk’s work centres on the science of human connection\, something that is central to mediation. Dr Suzanne Zeedyk is a research scientist based at the University of Dundee\, Scotland\, within the School of Psychology. In 2011\, Suzanne stepped away from a full-time academic post in order to establish an independent training enterprise. Its aim is to help the public understand all that science has discovered about the importance of emotional connection for human health and happiness. Suzanne works throughout the UK and beyond with organisations keen to think more deeply about fostering connection\, compassion and resilience. \nSuzanne’s Session – The dynamics of relationships: How they shape mediation \nEach of us leave infancy having learned key lessons about how relationships work\, both in times of shared joy and in times of conflict.  Unfortunately\, we often don’t realise what those lessons were because they remain in our unconscious\, stored there during our infancy.  Suzanne Zeedyk is currently engaged in efforts to help the public recognise and understand those dynamics. Awareness allows us to make changes if the emotional lessons we experienced turn out to be unhelpful or healthy.  In this talk\, Suzanne will explore how relational dynamics operate within the context of mediation.  It turns out that\, every single day\, mediators are dealing with the forgotten lessons their clients took with them as they left infancy. \nManira Ahmed is a Chief Officer with Public Health Scotland and has recently undertaken a mediation course. She’ll reflect on how her work and mediation. \nDr Samantha Hardy is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the James Cook University (JCU)\, Conflict Management Resolution (CMR) Program and she brings reflections on why mediators should be crafting their professional practice beyond not getting sued or being complained about. \nDon’t miss our early bird ticket offers!
