SUMMARY:Peer Mediation Training for Trainers Course March 2020
DESCRIPTION:This one-day training\, facilitated by our Peer Mediation Co-ordinator Sarah Welsh (see biography below) along with another experienced trainer\, would be an appropriate course for mediators\, youth and community workers and also teachers and school support workers (primary and secondary) who are motivated to work with young people in this field. No previous experience of delivering peer mediation is required. \nEvent Aims \n\nEquip participants with the knowledge and skills to deliver peer mediation training.\nBuild training capacity and to increase the number of peer mediation trainers in Scotland.\nWork towards the development of validation and standardisation of peer mediation practice and training.\n\nExpectations \nAt the end of this event attendees will be provided with the information required to deliver peer mediation training in schools. Participants will be given access to training materials\, resources and information to help create a peer mediation training toolkit. \nContent \n\nWorking in schools and within the school culture\nHistory and background of peer mediation in Scotland\nThe place of peer mediation in a whole school approach to relationships\nSetting up peer mediation: consultancy and preparation\nPeer mediation models\nTraining children and young people: guidelines\, materials and golden rules\nSustaining and maintaining peer mediation\nMonitoring and evaluation\n\nCosts: £170 per attendee for the day (£150 for Scottish Mediation members)\, including course handouts\, lunch and refreshments. (Organisational members can send up to two people at member rates). \nSarah Welsh Biography \nSarah’s role as Peer Mediation Coordinator is to support the development of peer mediation in schools and to work towards building a sustainable peer mediation network of good practice that can be rolled out across Scotland. Her focus over the past 2 years has been to provide training for young people and adults in the school system and to external support organisations\, who see the benefits of peer mediation for young people and for the school environment. Sarah joined Scottish Mediation in July 2017. She has a background in peer education and training with young people and has project managed in health\, education and third sector organisations. She has practiced as a family\, community\, intergenerational and homeless prevention mediator for many years. SUMMARY:Dig Deep - Self Reflective Practice Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:This interactive workshop facilitated by Alison Ebbitt and Charlie Irvine (see biographies below) is an opportunity for practitioners to reflect at a deeper level about how your work impacts on you in both the short and longer term. \nThis event is suitable for new and experienced mediators in any mediation discipline. \nAlison Ebbitt \nAlison has extensive experience as a family mediator\, practising since 1999. Her practice includes family mediation\, supervised contact and support work with children.  Alison’s practice also includes workplace dispute resolution\, mental health training and teen development. Additionally\, she is a qualified social worker and mental health officer along with over 12 year’s experience as a counsellor. \nCharlie Irvine \ncharlie.irvine@strath.ac.uk \nA former solicitor and professional musician\, Charlie started mediating in 1993 when he trained as a family mediator with FMS (now Relationships Scotland). His current practice includes commercial and succession disputes\, workplace conflict and complaints against professionals. In 2010 Charlie founded Strathclyde University’s LLM/MSc in Mediation and Conflict Resolution\, quickly followed by Strathclyde Mediation Clinic. The Clinic combines theory and practice by enabling students to work alongside experienced practitioners\, and provides a free mediation service in six sheriff courts across West Central Scotland. Charlie is a regular contributor to the Kluwer Mediation Blog. \nCosts: £70 per attendee for non members and £35 for SM members. SUMMARY:Confidentiality in Mediation CPD (Edinburgh)
DESCRIPTION:This 3 hour interactive workshop facilitated by Andrew Boyd (see biography below) will consider what confidentiality means to mediators and their clients\, what part it plays in the mediation session\, in agreements and post session. Mediators will be invited to explore their own issues regarding confidentiality and have the opportunity to share and discuss how it has affected their practice. \nAndrew’s Biography: Andrew is a registered mediator\, working with Cyrenians in Edinburgh and works predominantly with young people and their families. He is also the Mediation and Conflict Resolution Advisor for the Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution. Initially trained in community mediation\, he also mediates in workplace\, court and landlord/tenant disputes. Andrew is a consultant with Common Ground Mediation\, who provide Additional Support Needs Mediation throughout Scotland. Participants will be given access to training materials\, resources and information to help create a peer mediation training toolkit. \nContent \n\nWorking in schools and within the school culture\nHistory and background of peer mediation in Scotland\nThe place of peer mediation in a whole school approach to relationships\nSetting up peer mediation: consultancy and preparation\nPeer mediation models\nTraining children and young people: guidelines\, materials and golden rules\nSustaining and maintaining peer mediation\nMonitoring and evaluation\n\nCosts: £300 per attendee for the two days (£240 for Scottish Mediation members)\, including course handouts\, lunch and refreshments. (Organisational members can send up to two people at member rates). \nPease note school staff from within the Peer Mediation project areas (Dundee\, Angus and West Lothian) will be able to attend free of charge. \nSarah Welsh Biography \nSarah’s role as Peer Mediation Coordinator is to support the development of peer mediation in schools and to work towards building a sustainable peer mediation network of good practice that can be rolled out across Scotland. Her focus over the next 2 years will be to provide training for young people and adults in the school system and to external support organisations\, who see the benefits of  peer mediation for young people and for the school environment. Sarah joined Scottish Mediation in July 2017. She has a background in peer education and training with young people and has project managed in health\, education and third sector organisations. She has practiced as a family\, community\, intergenerational and homeless prevention mediator for many years. Currently she is a tutor on the Relationship Scotland\, Certificate in Family Mediation (Accredited) course and delivers additional professional development courses to mediators.
