SUMMARY:Confidentiality in Mediation CPD (Glasgow)
DESCRIPTION:This 3 hour interactive workshop facilitated by Andrew Boyd (see biography below) will consider what confidentiality means to mediators and their clients\, what part it plays in the mediation session\, in agreements and post session. Mediators will be invited to explore their own issues regarding confidentiality and have the opportunity to share and discuss how it has affected their practice. \nAndrew’s Biography: Andrew is a registered mediator\, working with Cyrenians in Edinburgh and works predominantly with young people and their families. He is also the Mediation and Conflict Resolution Advisor for the Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution. Initially trained in community mediation\, he also mediates in workplace\, court and landlord/tenant disputes. Andrew is a consultant with Common Ground Mediation\, who provide Additional Support Needs Mediation throughout Scotland. I accredited as a Mediator with CEDR in 2003 and set up Catalyst Mediation in 2005. We have helped people to resolve many different commercial\, IPR\, workplace\, estate\, partnership and shareholder disputes. I coach\, train\, lecture\, share skills and give demonstrations of communication\, negotiation\, early dispute resolution and mediation to councils\, HR staff\, legal firms\, their clients\, mediators\, in fact anyone I can persuade to sit still for long enough.

Amanda is also a Trustee with Scottish Mediation\, and champions the use of mediation and collaborative ways of resolving conflict. \nAmanda has demonstrated an ability to effectively communicate and influence people at all levels to change and improve practice on equalities. Skills development and communication are key to effective implementation of good practice and Amanda has delivered leadership development and staff training sessions to a variety of organisations\, including the public\, private and third sectors. \nAmanda has worked with a range of NHS organisations to not only ensure compliance of the public sector equality duties\, but to also embrace best practice on equalities\, to realise the benefits to the organisation\, staff\, patients and the public. \nAs well as working with public services and private sector organisations on equalities\, Amanda has extensive experience in community engagement\, supporting people with a wide range of access needs to have their voice heard by public services. \nAmanda holds a Law Masters in employment and equality legislation as well as degree in computing and information technology. She is also an advanced Trundler – enjoying the countryside and city on wheels\, and enjoys sharing experiences of accessible places to enjoy with others who use wheels to get about. \nSam Tedcastle\, Centre for Good Relations \nSam is a mediator and facilitator with 17 years experience of conflict resolution work. She has worked with Mediation Northern Ireland as their Field Manager in England to develop the practice of civic mediation to build resilience in communities affected by racial divisions. In 2006 Sam was a commissioner on the Commission on Integration and Cohesion\, which informed national UK Policy on cohesion and immigration matters. More recently Sam has come home to Scotland and for the last four years worked with WWF Celtic Seas Partnership applying civic mediation and stakeholder engagement processes to build transnational\, cross-sectoral partnerships in the Celtic Seas. As part of this role she applied civic mediation processes to build relationships with the fishing industry\, governments and eNGO’s.

She is a supervisor and Tutor on the Relationship Scotland Certificate in Mediation (CFMA) course and currently works as a community mediator with Falkirk Council. Running alongside her mediation she has been a Project Manager within the voluntary sector working in partnership with NHS Forth Valley and Lanarkshire. This work focused on Peer Education Development and Training and Health Improvement in a generic field. She has worked mainly with young people all her professional life and never tires of this. Her mantra is ‘What young people need is – a good listening to!!’ Sarah has wide experience in Health and Wellbeing Training.
