Board Committees

The Board is supported by two committees designed to help deliver the Network’s strategic objectives –

The Committee for Excellence in Mediation

The Committee for Excellence in Mediation acts on behalf of the Scottish Mediation Board in the encouragement of excellence in mediation practice and in growing and strengthening Scottish Mediation membership and the mediation community.

The Committee provides assurance to the SMN Board

  • as to the appropriate standards of professional conduct and training for admission to and maintenance on the Scottish Mediation Register,
  • as to the quality standards appropriate to Scottish Mediation Network projects established to promote the use of mediation across Scottish public life
  • that effective recruitment and retention systems exist to support membership of the Network and
  • that a focus on the needs of the consumers of mediation (the parties) is reflected in the way in which mediation standards are shaped, the training and CDP provided for mediators and in the way that SMN deals with concerns and complaints arising from the practice of mediation.

The Members of the Excellence Committee are-

Linn Phipps (Chair)

Fiona Cameron

Anne Inglis

Sonia Bruce

Craig Cathcart

The Committee for Promotion of Mediation

The Committee for Promotion of Mediation acts on behalf of the Scottish Mediation Board by championing mediation as one of the essential tools in the resolution of disputes and complaints and by promoting peer mediation for children and young people to deal positively with conflict.

The Members of the Promotion Committee are –

Scott Docherty (Chair)

Alun Thomas
