What do we provide?

We provide young people with development and networking opportunities in their mediation practice. We also support peer mediation services in schools and organisations and promote the sustainability of peer mediation programmes. Furthermore being a member of the network has other perks as well – see below for details.

Opportunities to Develop Skills

Improve and update peer mediation practice skills through participation in CPD sessions that bring schools and organisations together (both short and long events). More development opportunities are also available in the form of tailored CPD events at a pre-determined rate from the Peer Mediation Network.

Support in Setting up and Maintaining a Peer Mediation Service

Receive support from the Network Coordinator with queries and issues regarding your peer mediation practices or programmes.

Opportunities to Share and Network

Benefit from participating in a community of young people, schools and organisation that employ peer mediation practices. Means of networking and sharing ideas and information will be provided both online as well as through events, CPD sessions and contact sharing.

Resources and Information

Young Talk App – available in App Store and Google play as “Young Talk Peer Mediation” download free, it’s a great resource for young people and adults alike.

Benefit from a variety of existing resources and information that will be available to all members. Additional tailored resources can potentially be provided by the Network Coordinator if specific needs arise for your school or organisation.

Registration of Peer Mediators

The Scottish Mediation Register is an independent Register of mediators who meet standards of quality. In order to join the Register, mediation practitioners must meet the current Practice Standards which have been amended to suit the needs and opportunities of young people as peer mediators. Mediators who are on the SMR can call themselves a Scottish Mediation Registered Mediator and use the logo (see opposite) next to their name.

Note: All listed member benefits are free of charge unless otherwise specified.
