Scottish Mediation has been funded by the Safedeposits Scotland Charitable Trust to provide free mediation for neighbours where at least one party is in private rented accommodation.
Anyone is eligible for the service if:
- They live in Scotland
- At least one of the parties lives in private rented accommodation.
- All of the people in the conflict agree to participate in mediation.
The mediations are provided by professional mediators from the Scottish Mediation Register.
Referrals for mediation can be made by either party or their landlord or letting agent.
Disputes may involve many different issues, including:
- noise
- anti-social behaviour
- boundary problems
- abusive behaviour
- common areas
- pets
- repairs and maintenance
A common challenge in neighbour disputes is that while one neighbour is open to mediation, the other is hesitant or refuses altogether. See our guide ‘When Neighbours won’t Mediate’ to help overcome this issue.
Check out our VIDEO which explains the issues that neighbours might have and how mediation can help!
