At Cyrenians, we tackle the causes and consequences of homelessness.
Everybody deserves the opportunity to lead valued, fulfilling lives. The support we offer is person-centred and relationship-based – meaning that we’ll work alongside you towards the change you would like to see.
Mediation and Whole-Family Support
Mediation is a way we can offer support to you and your family to talk about things that are causing you upset, helping you and your family to come to an agreement and perhaps understand each other better. Simply put, mediation is when a mediator sits with you and your family and supports you to talk to each other. The less talking the mediator does the better! But we will be there to help out as needed.
We recognise each family has its own unique strengths and challenges. Our Mediators and Family Outreach Workers provide a service to fit each family, finding a way forward together that works for everyone. Building strong relationships makes it easier to sort out difficulties and is an important part of feeling safe and happier at home for everyone.
Our Mediators help families talk to each other in a positive way without making judgements or telling them what to do. They listen to concerns and help people understand each other better.
Our Family Outreach Workers provide one-to-one support with things such as increasing young people’s confidence in communicating their needs to others, practical support around education, work, community engagement, developing skills to manage anger and understanding how relationships work.
How to access our service
- Edinburgh
We’re excited to share that Cyrenians’ Mediation and Whole-Family Support service is now available to spot-purchase through Edinburgh Council’s Accredited Pathways and Certified Counselling and Therapies Framework.
For social workers, education staff, CAMHS, housing teams and other professionals supporting families experiencing conflict, inclusion on the framework provides a straightforward route to commission an evidence-based, whole-family intervention designed to reduce conflict, strengthen relationships and prevent youth homelessness.Mediation and whole-family support are delivered over a minimum 12-week programme. The flexibility of the model allows support to be tailored to each family’s needs, recognising that rebuilding trust and improving relationships takes time, and an assets-based person-centred approach. If you are working with a family where conflict is placing a young person at risk of homelessness in Edinburgh, or you would like to find out more about commissioning the service, we’d be delighted to hear from you at mediationandsupport@cyrenians.scot - Falkirk
