Gillian Carmichael Lemaire

Gillian is a bilingual (English/French) mediator and arbitrator working in the UK and internationally. She serves as a civil and commercial and a community mediator. As well as being a registered mediator with Scottish Mediation, Gillian is a registered mediator with the Civil Mediation Council (England & Wales) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Scottish Branch panel of civil and commercial mediators. She is a volunteer community mediator for Smile Mediation (Resolve UK).

Gillian was previously a solicitor (now a Fellow of the Law Society of Scotland) and a practising member of the Paris Bar (now an Honorary Member). She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and Chair of the Board of the Scottish Arbitration Centre, which launched Rules for administered mediations in 2025.

Gillian’s sectoral experience is in construction and infrastructure, environmental and energy, commercial and corporate, and interpersonal cases. She is committed to raising awareness of the benefits of mediation as a key process for addressing many environmental and climate-related disputes. She is a signatory of the Mediators Green Pledge and a member of the UK Environmental Law Association. Whenever there is an opportunity, she enjoys helping disputants manage and resolve conflict through walking.
