Shona Mackinnon Crallan

Shona has established a reputation for innovative work in mediation, combining a thoughtful, commercially minded and friendly approach. Recognised for her ability to quickly absorb complex facts, she assists parties in finding creative solutions to their disputes. She has a particular expertise in managing power dynamics and the sensitivities that can arise in conflict. She is recognised as a “highly skilled facilitator” and as having “first class legal knowledge and analytical skills”. Her clients have described her as “highly effective”, “empathetic and sharp” and “a bastion of calm”.

She mediates a range of commercial and civil disputes including corporate, workplace, human rights and clinical negligence matters. As well as Scottish Mediation, she sits on the CEDR Commercial Panel, as well CEDR’s panel of clinical negligence mediators approved to conduct mediations for NHS Resolution’s Clinical Mediation Scheme. In addition, Shona mediates workplace disputes for The University of Edinburgh, as well as Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) matters for Prime Resolution.

Shona also sits on the panel of CCAMI, a Brazilian organisation providing support to refugees through mediation training and services. She regularly provides mediation training workshops and seminars for law firms in the UK and Brazil and has judged several mediation and negotiation competitions: Columbia Law School Harlan Fiske Stone Moot Court; UK National Mediation Competition; and the CPR Institute International Mediation Competition in São Paulo.

Before becoming a mediator Shona had a successful legal career in corporate litigation and human rights law, initially at Freshfields, on secondment at The London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games working within the Intellectual Property team, and latterly working at Amnesty International, Hickman & Rose and INQUEST where she advised on numerous high-profile deaths in state custody cases.
