Apology In Mediation CPD Online, Thursday 15th October, 10am – 1pm

It has been said that the act of apology is one of the core reparative opportunities in damaged relationships. This 3 hour interactive workshop facilitated by Carolyn Hirst (see biography below) will explore the part that an apology can play in righting perceived wrongs and restoring relations.Questions to be considered include: What is an apology? What is the purpose of making one? Who should make and receive an apology? and Is there an optimal time for making an apology? The workshop will draw on research and practice, with mediators being invited to share experiences and discuss approaches.

Carolyn Hirst’s Biography: Carolyn is an independent consultant with her own business, Hirstworks. A registered mediator, she is the mediation practice supervisor for Cyrenians and mediates for the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission and Edinburgh Sheriff Court. She is a Non-Executive Board Member of NHS Lothian, the Vice-Chair of Midlothian Integration Joint Board and a Trustee of the Edinburgh and Lothians Health Foundation. Carolyn previously worked part-time as a Lecturer in Ombudsman and Complaint Handling Practice at Queen Margaret University. She also served a five-year term as a Deputy Scottish Public Services Ombudsman and worked in social housing for nearly 20 years, latterly as Deputy Director of a housing and care organisation.

This CPD event is suitable for new and experienced mediators in any mediation discipline.
